UK HR/Payroll RTI Update

Published on

SAP recognises the importance of the SAP HR/Payroll solution, including the new Real Time Information (RTI) functionality, to all our customers who use our solution. However it is important to note that the UK governments RTI is the most radical change to the reporting of PAYE since its inception in 1948.

This major change has involved significant development by SAP and we appreciate that some of our customers have faced challenges with its deployment. We welcome the feedback you and your members provide and would like to take this opportunity to outline our approach.

To support the successful deployment of this government requirement, SAP participated in the HMRC 12 month pilot phase which commenced in April 2012. During this pilot we have been in regular dialogue with HMRC and a representative sample of our customers, from both the public and private sectors, including a weekly RTI pilot customer call to report progress, share experiences, receive and provide feedback on lessons learned. This has helped to enable SAP and our pilot customers to identify and overcome issues which might reasonably be expected from such a large and complex development, in advance of the general go live of RTI in April 2013.

To help meet our customers needs during the rollout phase and address any outstanding issues, a task force is in place and working in conjunction with our Development team, they have endeavored to respond as quickly as possible in assisting any customers who have experienced difficulties. Our task force continues to work closely with those who are still encountering challenges, including those facing minor outstanding problems in rare and complex Multiple Employment scenarios. Many customers going live from April 2013 who have followed our documentation and implemented all the recommended SAP Notes have been able to run the solution without reporting problems.

As you will be aware, Maureen Gregory, our Localisation Product Manager for the UK and Ireland, will be attending the next GB Payroll SIG meeting on 22 May 2013 where RTI is on the agenda. This will allow her to provide you and your members with further details of the actions being taken and to address any outstanding concerns directly with the user groups members. We trust this will help restore the confidence of your members but if the GB Payroll SIG chair has additional comments, we would welcome further input.
