Cloud and the journey to a ‘digital core’

Published on

We recently discussed the rise of the phrase ‘digital transformation’, and how companies are dealing with numerous disruptive forces impacting their business operations. Of those forces, cloud is one that continues to generate significant interest. At the same time, SAP has been keen to talk about the benefits of cloud in helping companies achieve what it calls a ‘digital core’ – an approach that puts simplicity at the heart of the business, and drives digital transformation through technology.

At our next User Group Cloud Symposium (12th May 2016) we’ll be discussing cloud adoption and the digital core principle. Our first speaker of the day will be Kevin Kimber, Head of Cloud SAP UK & Ireland. Kevin will be presenting on how creating a digital core allows companies to run in real-time, and become a ‘live business’. A live business is one which can measure the impact of a given factor in real-time. For example, a retailer that monitors the real-time impact of weather on sales in particular locations, and then adjusts supply quickly and accurately based on demand. Kevin will also give an update on customer adoption of cloud in the UKI market and highlight current market trends and opportunities.

Following Kevin, we welcome Anup Ghosh, SAP chief technology officer for IBM. Anup’s presentation on ‘redefining your role in the era of cloud’ will cover the impact of cloud as an enabler, and how it has redefined the role of IT within organisations. Anup will also explore what comes next for enterprise architects, and how to navigate the cloud landscape. Finally, Anup will also draw out key future cloud trends to be aware of.

We will also have a number of breakout sessions across four streams: Employee Productivity, Data Governance, Suite/Platform and Cloud Development. The sessions will cover a wide range of topics – from SAP SuccessFactors, to the benefits of public cloud, to a showcase of HANA Cloud Platform. All the breakout sessions are led by SAP users from organisations in all sectors, giving attendees the chance to hear about cloud successes and failures first hand.

The day will finish with a networking drinks session in the exhibition area, and the chance for attendees to make new connections with peers. To find out more about the Cloud Symposium and register to attend, please visit: https://www.sapusers.org/events/1248/20160512-cloud-symposium.
