Measuring your environmental impact using SAP

Published on

Sustainability has skyrocketed to the top of many business agendas over the last year as environmental activism and government pressure has increased. No longer is sustainability a “nice to have”, instead it is a “must have” for most organisations as they look to become more eco-friendly. Every business department has a role to play in reducing environmental impact and reaching sustainability goals, including SAP users.

At Sapphire Now Reimagined last month, SAP released more details on its Climate 21 Programme, which is designed to support organisations in fighting climate change and reducing their carbon footprint. By working alongside users to develop apps that embed sustainability metrics into SAP software, the programme aims to help organisations understand, analyse and optimise their impact on the environment.

The first application available is SAP Product Carbon Footprint Analytics, which will track emissions throughout the production, sale and delivery of goods. SAP Product Carbon Footprint Analytics utilises data from SAP S/4 HANA and other resources, and then feeds this through SAP Analytics Cloud to provide the necessary insight. Global manufacturer Döhler piloted the product in May, and you can find a full case study here. The case study explains how Döhler used SAP Product Carbon Footprint Analytics to monitor emissions from purchased goods, energy consumption, direct emissions and outbound transport.

Further information on Climate 21, including a full roadmap of planned product releases, can be found here. We look forward to hearing more from SAP in the coming months on what is an important issue for many of us.
