Overcoming skills and technology challenges for data analytics success

Published on

We all know data is important, but how many organisations are truly making effective use of it? There are definitely benefits for those that are, with research by YouGov finding that 80% of data-driven organisations claim they have a critical advantage as the pandemic continues. In the run up to our recent Analytics Symposium, we wanted to find out from our members how they were making use of their business data and the hurdles they may be facing, so we did a survey to find out.

Skills and technology issues continue to be the biggest challenges facing organisations today. Only a third of survey respondents think their organisation has the necessary skills to make effective use of all their data. Meanwhile, less than half think they have the necessary data analytics technologies to make use of their data effectively.

Data analytics and SAP

Despite these challenges, two thirds of those surveyed said that data analytics has proven useful during the pandemic. Taking a closer look at the usage of SAP Analytics Cloud, just under 60% of organisations said they were using or planning to use the product. In addition, just over half of organisations also said they were currently using the SAP HANA in-memory database. Interestingly, of those organisations not using the product, 45% said they were waiting to move to SAP S/4HANA.

Having the necessary data analytics technology and skills is becoming hugely important. The onus is on helping ensure SAP user organisations maximise their technology investment, so they can realise greater insight and value from their data.
