The number of women employed in senior IT and technology roles as always been significantly lower than that of men. Research last year from the Centre for Economics and Business Resources (CEBR) revealed that only one in six IT professionals in the UK are women.
With increased societal awareness of gender inequality, many employers are now trying their upmost to attract and employ more women. But despite these efforts, there is still a lack of female representation across the technology sector. In fact, female representation in the technology sector has stalled over the last ten years.
SAP has been looking to drive change with its Global Business Women’s Network, but there is still more we can do across the entire SAP ecosystem to drive diversity. Here at UKISUG, we know that the majority of our members are men, so we are keen to engage with more of our female members and to readdress the balance.
With that in mind, we are pleased to announce our first ‘Women in SAP’ Coffee Session, which is taking place on Tuesday 7th September. Following the same virtual format of our other coffee sessions, this 30-minute session is an opportunity for our female members to get together to openly discuss the workplace challenges they face. The session will be facilitated by two of our UKISUG board members – Cheryl Millyard, Head of Business Service Centre at Gloucestershire County Council, and Fiona Warburg, SAP CoE Manager at Welsh Water.
We hope that through the coffee session we can start to build a dedicated community and identify the issues that matter most to our female members. This will help to inform other initiatives around diversity and ‘Women in SAP that we have planned for later in the year – watch this space!
